Ma petite et modeste participation à la grande manifestation à Bouira, à côté de mes amis de la Wilaya de Bouira, depuis le début jusqu'à la fin en plein soleil d'été le 19 juillet 2001.

My small and modest participation in the huge demonstration in Bouira, along side my friends of the Provence of Bouira, from the beginning to the end in the hot summer sun of July 19 2001.

What an honor for me!

Ce qui me reste en mémoire, ce sont : le côte particulièrement pacifiste de la manifestation, les chants et les chansons très rythmés tant en arabe et français qu'en tamazight (kabyle), la solidarité exemplaire entre les manifestants et les habitants très accueillants de la ville de Bouira, et surtout les interminables bouteilles d'eau fraîche lancées par les fenêtres et les balcons, ratrappés et puis distribués de façon équitable à nous, tous les manifestants dans le cortège, tout le long du trajet très long à travers la ville.  Quelle organisation ! Tout le monde avait soif et tout le monde (moi inclus) a bu des mêmes bouteilles d'eau sans distinction aucune.  L'Algérie est vraiment une terre de fraternité.

What remains very vivid in my mind are several things: how so peaceful and pacifist the demonstration was, the extremely rhythmic singings and chants in Arabic, French, and Tamazight (Berber language) during the long walk across the city, the exemplifying solidarity amongst the demonstrators and the residents of the city of Bouira, and especially the numerous plastic bottles of ice cold water that were continuously being tossed from the windows and balconies to us demonstrators during the march.  What an incredible organization.  Everyone was thirsty and everyone (including myself) drank from the same bottles without distinction.  Alegria is truly a land of brotherhood.
